The downside of the Sony Reader Daily Edition is the lack of contrast between the words and background. You can’t adjust the brightness, so if you have difficulty reading the text, you’ll just have to increase the font size. Another issue with the reader is the glare from the screen due to the touch screen technology. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Sony Reader so these defects to me are minor and I figured I can overcome these issues by using the Sony cover with built in light.

Alas, this very expensive cover falls short. The first thing you’ll notice when you turn on the light, is that it enhances the glare from the touch screen, so you need to fiddle around with the angle so that the reflection does not affect your reading. But when you do that, the illumination of the text on the reader is of course now minimal. So here you have light to brighten the screen, but it enhances the glare (darn if you don’t and darn if you do). The only solution is for Sony to someday have touch screens (which is really nice to have on a reader) that does not produce as much glare.

The cover with light is also slightly bigger so it increases the size of your reader and its weight. Not that much, but if you’re reading a book that you just can’t put down because it’s THAT good, holding on to a device which is bigger and heavier than it originally was can get to you after a while. So I’ve gone back to the original cover that came with my reader.

Bottom line, if you don’t mind the additional size and weight, and you can live with the glare, it’s a really beautiful cover and looks very classy.

It is just what I was looking for. I wish sony had not done away with their reader with backlighting (PRS700) but this light works great.

I like everything about the light. It installs easily and integrates well.

The light is fine. You will notice some glare – I have not tried the anti-glare stick on – but I usually position the light and slightly tilt the reader and it works fine.
